Surveyer, explorer, financier, and politician. Brother of John Forrest with whom he explored in 1869 in search of Leichhardt and in 1871 along the south coast of W.A. to Eucla and S.A. In 1879 he explored from the De Grey to the Kimberley and Fitzroy River, where he took up several pastoral stations with his brothers. Robert Logan Jack was born in Ayrshire, Scotland on 16 September 1845. Educated at the Irvine Academy and at the University of Edinburgh, he joined the Geological Survey of Scotland in 1867 and by 1876 had contributed greatly to Scottish geology by mapping the coalfields.
